Brian struggled with his breathing through the night. His needs more care and was moved to the Intensive Care Unit. It was decided that they needed to drain the left lung again
so that Brian could not need so much help breathi
ng. He is in the OR again. They don't know how long it will take. He made it through his first chemo treatment on Thursday. They are hoping to slow down the cancer and the fluid with the chemo.- We had an eventful Wednesday.....Brian had a rough night Tuesday. He was having a hard time catching his breath. The respitory therapist was called. He was given a breathing treatment. He was still struggling to breath so they put him on a BiPap machine (big loud machine). Wednesday morning they did a CT scan to see what was going on. They found fluid and a small blood clot on the right side. Yeah that's right on the good side. The left side (cancer lung) has some bubbles of fluid on it also. Dr. Pearce came up to his room and drained the right lung (big needle through his back). Brian was
able to breath better but his oxygen is now on 5-10. He was on 2-3 before. Chemo was scheduled for Wednesday but after dealing with all these other issues it was too late to start. They think Brian has a staph infection so we may not start chemo tomorrow. We will find out in the morning. They are going to start him on Carbo - Alimta. It has the known side affects that you hear people get from chemo. They have started him on a steroid to help with a possible rash and will give him a strong anti-nausea medicine to help with the nausea. We are still at the hospital. He doesn't have an appetite and his sodium level is still low so we will be sticking around for a few days.
Well we are back in the hospital again. He was discharged Saturday around 5:00 pm. We were back in the ER Sunday before 4:00 pm. He was not feeling well. We had a hard time controlling the pain at home. His sodium level had dropped so low that it was causing problems. He also may have some kind of infection. It takes 12 to 24 hours to get the test results back. Chemo is still set for Wednesday. That may change depending on the test results from the blood work. We are still waiting on the results to tell us which type of lung cancer he has. Hopefully we
will find out tonight.- Good Evening Brian

Paddy, Marissa, Carla, Racquel, Katie, Morag, Jackie, Gail and Élan So...we were expecting the results from the lung biopsy Friday after 5pm but... no results yet. Dr. Rich says it will be Monday after 5pm now. Regardless Brian is scheduled to start treatment on Wednesday. Although we won't know which kind of treatment until Monday. We may get discharged from the hospital this afternoon. They have turned off the epidural and want to see if the pain can be managed with Percocet if so, we will be able to get out of here.
Bri's heart rate went a little crazy last night. It was jumping all over. It's not uncommon with the type of surgeries that he has had. They ran an echocardiogram to make sure there isn't any fluid around his heart. They put him on Amiodarone just in case. It keeps your heart rate steady. We will be here another day. We should find out today exactly which type of lung cancer he has. Treatment is planned for either Monday or Wednesday at this point. He is still in a lot of pain. He has an epidural in, which helps. He is also getting morphine periodically in his IV.
